Social & Fundraising Events

Hi Everyone!  On Saturday, 17th October 2015 we will be fundraising for our Club by holding a Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings in Joondalup.  We are hoping for a great day and hopefully we manage to entice you all to come and join us this day.  I mean who doesn't like a nice sausage sizzle right?  Anyway we would love if you could tell all your friends and family to pop along and visit us on this great day.  For those members (and non-members) who would love to come along and volunteer some of your time to this great day, please contact our Social Secretary Bev Starkie or I am sure any one of the Committee would be happy to put your name forward.

If you have any great ideas for social events then please contact our Social Secretary Bev. As it stands she organises some great social events throughout the year but we always welcome new ideas and any help that can be given to these social events, either by sponsorship or just a helping hand.

We look forward to seeing you at the Club!  Cool

The Wanneroo Tennis club was formed by Trevor Johnson OAM in 1975 at the old courts by the showgrounds.  The club stayed there for a couple of seasons until 2 courts were built where we are now residing. The club was formed as there were no established tennis clubs in the whole of the then northern districts and this prompted Trevor to start the WDTA.  In the winter of 1975 Trevor formed 7 tennis clubs under the banner of the Wanneroo District Tennis Association and held the first formation meeting in August 1975 to formalise the new association and adopt a set of constitutional rules and commence an intra club summer competition.  Trevor Johnson OAM is both a Life member of the Wanneroo Tennis Club and also of the Norther District Tennis Association. During this same period Mid-week ladies and a Saturday junior morning clinic/competition among the WDTA clubs was formed. Membership in the early days started off with a couple of members and grew to a peak of around 120 members around 1989.   Numbers today around 85 Senior members and around 30 Junior members. Today the club proudly boasts 8 synthetic courts and 2 hard courts for the members to use and a club room that’s sees it fair share of functions complete with a liquor License though restricted.  The club also fields Tennis West pennants teams in both Ladies and Men’s competition and also field Northern District men’s teams.  As can be seen from the above we have a very proud history in the northern districts and as such we are highly respected in the tennis community and the broader Wanneroo Community.

So to celebrate this milestone the Wanneroo Tennis Club will celebrate in style their 40th year of being established.  The details of this auspicious occasion follow:
